Oregonian: "2 Democrats in race to be state's top lawyer"

From the Oregonian, September 21, 2007.

The Democratic field for attorney general looks set: Rep. Greg Macpherson vs. professor John Kroger. Macpherson, 57, is running on his accomplishments as a three-term Oregon legislator from Lake Oswego. Kroger, 41, highlights his record as a former federal prosecutor. ...

"I have years of proven experience protecting Oregon consumers, creating safe Oregon neighborhoods and protecting Oregon's environment," [Macpherson] said. "And I'm the only candidate in this race who can say that."

Republican Kevin Mannix, who lost to [Attorney General Hardy] Myers in 2000, said he was not interested in running again but wouldn't rule it out. ...

At this point, Mannix said, Republicans are hoping Kroger and Macpherson weaken each other with attacks. "We love a divisive, bloody Democratic primary," he said.
