NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC Endorses Greg for AG
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC is pleased to announce its endorsement of Representative Greg Macpherson for Attorney General. Representative Macpherson has been a strong supporter of choice throughout his legislative career as an advocate for access to emergency contraception and prescription coverage of birth control.
"In the Legislature, I've always fought for a woman's right to choose, and stood up to extremists who want to chip away at Oregonians' civil rights,” Macpherson said. “As Oregon's next Attorney General, I'll continue to defend the freedom to make reproductive decisions privately without government interference. I'm proud that NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon endorsed me based on my proven record of standing up for a woman's right to choose."
“Greg has represented the choice movement in the legislature for years,” said Michele Stranger Hunter, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon. “Because anti-choice bills typically have moved through the House Judiciary Committee, Greg has done a great deal to defeat attempts to place restrictions on choice and has championed increased access to emergency contraception and birth control.”
Representative Macpherson’s support for a woman’s right to choose goes beyond simply taking pro-choice votes. In the 2005 session, he wrote a crucial minority report to HB 2605, which would have required parental notification before terminating the pregnancy of a minor. Macpherson’s minority report would have allowed an attending physician to bypass parental notification. HB 2605 died in the Senate, but the language of that bill was placed on the ballot as Measure 43 and defeated by Oregon voters.
